Welcome to the Department of Horticulture at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka, Bangladesh. We are glad that you have chosen to study at SAU. The mission of the Department of Horticulture involves both education and discovery. Our Department is committed to teach and counsel students, and enjoys a worldwide reputation for excellence in research related to horticultural crops. Our goal is to provide the student with the necessary technical information to be successful in the Horticultural field. In addition, we strive to provide students with the analytical skills necessary to interpret new information as the world of Horticulture continues to change. The curricula within the Department of Horticulture are designed to provide you with communication skills, analytical skills and sensitivity to cultural diversity necessary for success in an increasingly global economy. Upon graduation, you will leave SAU with a wealth of information and the skills for continued life-long learning. The mission and vision of the Department of Horticulture at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka, Bangladesh is to prepare students, citizens, and to discover, develop and disseminate science and technologies to serve the teaching, research and outreach needs of students, stakeholders and peers in the horticultural plant sciences. The SAU Department of Horticulture will be the top program because of its emphasis on creativity, science, and technology, while maintaining a keen focus on relevancy to horticulture, landscape architecture, agriculture, and stewardship of natural resources.
There is a variety of horticultural crops, including annual and perennial species, food and ornamental plants and plants grown outdoors and in controlled climate. The Innovative Horticulture program provides practical and creative learning experiences and opportunities for students inside and outside the classroom.
In 1938, Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq envisioned a new era of agricultural education to empower students with knowledge and innovation for sustainable farming. This vision gave birth to Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, a center of excellence in agricultural development.
