Prof. Dr. K. B. M. Saiful Islam completed his Ph.D. and MS in Bio-systems Sustainability (major in Microbiology) from Hokkaido University, Japan; MS in Medicine from Bangladesh Agricultural University and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Chittagong University, Bangladesh. He also received Post Graduation Diplomas (PGDs) from KVL, Denmark and ENVA, France. He has more than 20 years of research and teaching experience. With over 20 years of experience in research and teaching, he has authored more than 90 publications across various formats, including peer-reviewed high-impact journals; one of which reached an individual impact factor of 33.883. His research integrates Host-Microbe Interaction, One Health, and translational Public Health, with a focus on environmental sustainability and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) containment. He has led and contributed to international projects funded by FAO, ADB, USAID, UKAID, and national governments, and has actively participated in numerous courses, workshops, and scientific meetings worldwide. Prof. Islam serves on the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed journals and has reviewed over 100 manuscripts. He has been honored as a Visiting Scholar at ENVA (France), CEVA (France), Hokkaido University (Japan), and Tufts University (USA), making him the only Bangladeshi veterinary academician to receive such recognition across three continents. He has been selected three times as a Key Opinion Leader, representing Bangladesh’s small animal education and research on the international stage. His accolades include 22 international awards and recognitions, notably the ICASVM Innovative Research Award (USA), SAADC Young Scientist Award (Thailand and Laos), and the Asian Young LAB Scientist Award (Japan), along with nine national honors. In recognition of his enduring commitment to global education and research excellence, he has been appointed as the Global PR Ambassador of Hokkaido University for Bangladesh, a Program Fellow of Japan’s MEXT-funded AgriScience Frontiers, and a Hokkaido University Partner under its Ambassador Partner System. Prof. Islam has held key academic leadership roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science & Veterinary Medicine, Chair of the Department of Medicine & Public Health, and Director of the Teaching Veterinary Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Bangladesh. He also served as a Senior Scientist at the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) prior to joining SAU. He remains deeply engaged in academic diplomacy, mentoring international researchers, and fostering cross-border collaboration.
